The name Doula is derived from the Greek translation as serving woman, the modern term is interpreted as Mothering the Mother, supporting her to establish feeding as soon after birth as possible, whatever the mother’s choice may be. The most important thing after birth is for the mother, baby and partner to be together to bond as a family unit. I provide Doula Services in and around Bedford. Afterwards I can also offer Placenta encapsulation and other remedies, if required, this helps mothers have a speedier recovery after the birth, lowers the incidence of PND and encourages milk supply for the new baby. I offer special Birth packages on request, please ask.
My promise to all clients will be to talk initially via either phone or email to discuss your needs. Then attend 2 antenatal home visits to discuss your hopes and wishes for your labour and birth. These visits usually take up to 2 hours each time to establish if we want to work together and are happy with our arrangements regarding your birth preferences and our financial arrangement and contract . We will both sign this at the end of the 1st meeting, as long as you are happy with it.
I will go on call for you for 2 weeks before the expected due date until the baby is born. During this time I will be available to talk to you 24/7 if you need to talk to have any worries allayed. I work within a 30 mile radius to Bedford and have transport to get to you wherever you choose to give birth, be that at home, a birth centre or hospital, I will be on call exclusively to you only.
I will carry copies of your birth preferences and give these over to the relevant health professionals on arrival at home or hospital. I am there to support you as parents in a loving respectful way.
I will be there for the whole time you are in labour supporting you and encouraging you to assist you through this very special time, keep you focused and look after you and your partner for the duration of the labour until you are happy for me to leave after the birth. There is no clock running, no time restraints, all that matters is you, your partner and your baby!
Postnatally I will visit you at home, this visit is to have a talk and debrief your birth with you, and if necessary offer support and make suggestions to help establish breastfeeding. This is the final part of the Birth package and you can then decide if you require further help and support.
Complete Doula package is £650, this includes 2 meetings antenatally, being on call 24/7 from 38 weeks until delivery and 1 postnatal visit. I will then support you via email and text for a full 6 weeks postnatally. Costs will be more if outside Bedford and surrounding villages only, travel expenses at 45p per mile will be extra.
